Is Denali Open in 2021?
Most of Denali’s campgrounds were open in 2021. Advanced reservations for all campgrounds are strongly recommended; they can be made as early as December 1, for the following summer. Campers are asked to do their part in maintaining social distancing.

Winter can be a great time for a visit, particularly if you enjoy winter recreation. Much of the park’s sole road is closed in winter, so vehicle access into Denali is limited in winter. But numerous trails allow for short or long trips by ski, snowshoe, foot — even by dog team!

Located far from any airport or large city, Denali is a wilderness park. Reaching the park can take several hours (or even most of a day), so we recommend that you plan a minimum itinerary of 2 nights in the area, which gives you one full day and part of two others.
Where should I stay in Denali National Park in the winter?
Lodging/dining: Healy lies 10 miles north of the park entrance and has a few options for overnight accommodations. Try the Totem Inn and Restaurant in downtown Healy or Denali Lakeview Inn on scenic Otto Lake. Rose’s Cafe is on the Parks Highway.

Denali’s landscape spans from 62 to 64 degrees north latitud, where short winter days and a low sun angle help retain any snow that falls on the ground. There are places in the park, in the upper elevations of the Alaska Range (other than glaciers), that are snow covered year round.
